WHY USE PRESERVATIVES?
Fresh living skincare, which is still enzyme-intact, needs preserving. Preservatives are used to prevent the growth of microbes (bacterium and fungi) that spoil the product. These microbes also produce waste products that can cause harm to our skin. It would not be responsible of us to sell skincare that has no protection against pathogenic microbial growth. By researching our options carefully and commissioning an independent laboratory for testing, we have provided safe, self-preserving formulations – without the need to add preservatives!

COMMERCIAL TOXINS
One major concern with commercial skincare is the potential toxicity of the preservatives. Most preservatives are derived from petrochemicals and can be allergenic. Phthalates and parabens are now known to mimic oestrogen and have been linked with the development of certain cancers and the disrupted sexual development in young males. Even the ‘milder’ food-grade preservatives such as Potassium Sorbate and Sodium Benzoate are known skin irritants.

HOW WE DO IT
Instead we use ingredients such as Glyceryl Caprilate (a moisturiser derived from palm and coconut oil) Sodium Levulinate and Sodium Anisate (natural fragrance), Essential Oils (Rosemary, Tea Tree, Neem, Sandalwood) that have inherent antibacterial and antifungal properties and these, when combined with Good Manufacturing Practice, are enough to guarantee the shelf life of our living SkinFoods for 1 year from manufacture.

EXTENDING THEIR LIFE
The ‘use by once opened’ date is between 1 and 6 months, and all dates can be extended considerably if our fresh SkinFoods are kept in the refrigerator.
